MakeAble Seeker Information
You describe the problem; MakeAble and a Maker handle the rest. Here's exactly how that works — and the one thing only you can do right: the sizes.
What a Seeker is
A Seeker is anyone with a problem worth solving: something broken, missing, awkward, or nonexistent. You don't need any design or 3D-printing knowledge — just an honest description of what you need.
What Seekers are responsible for
When information affects what gets made, accuracy is on you:
- Sizes and dimensions
- Measurements
- The device or object it must fit (make and model)
- Shoe, hand, or grip size when that's what the design fits
- Material requirements (for example, if it must flex or survive heat)
- The intended use — what the object will actually do
- Color and quantity preferences
- Shipping information
MakeAble may ask for more information when needed. If a required measurement or specification is missing, the item is not production ready — and MakeAble will tell you rather than let a Maker guess.
What happens when you request something
- You confirm the details: how many, in what material and color, shipped where.
- MakeAble first checks finished inventory — if a Maker already has your exact design in your size and color, ready to ship, you can order it right away.
- Otherwise, your request is published to The Workshop, where Makers can see the job — showing only your state and country.
- A Maker accepts the work, locks the design version and your sizes to the order, and produces it.
- You pay for qualifying orders through MakeAble.
- The Maker ships it to you, with tracking in MakeAble when available.
Your privacy along the way
Makers browsing The Workshop see only your state and country — never your name or address. Your full shipping details are shared with your Maker only after you have an order and it reaches fulfillment. Your designs stay private unless you publish them.
Payments and fees
- You pay for qualifying orders through MakeAble. Payments are processed by Base44 Payments.
- You see the full price — item, shipping, and any applicable fees — before you commit to an order.
- MakeAble charges Makers a platform fee (10% of each order, with a minimum fee of $0.50) so there is no cost to ask for what you need.
Shipping
Orders are shipped to you by the Maker who made them. How long it takes varies with the Maker's production time, the shipping carrier, the destination, and the circumstances of your order. If you need something by a certain date, say so in your request — Makers can see your timeframe before accepting.
If something goes wrong
If an item arrives damaged, doesn't match your order, or worries you, report it from your orders page or through the Contact & Support page. Problems with delivered orders can be reviewed, refunded, and reflected in the Maker's public record.
